Posted December 30th, 2013 @ 10:21am

2014 is almost here and as the clock strikes midnight, all eyes will be on NYC and Times Square for the New Year’s Eve ball drop. According to the Times Square Alliance, there are an estimated one million people who will watch the ball drop in Times Square and as many as one billion people watching around the world.

The New Year’s Eve ball drop in Times Square, a tradition over 100 years old, has become the universal symbol for welcoming in the New Year. This year, the festivities will begin at 6pm with the lighting and raising of the Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball. However, the streets around Times Square (42nd to 47th Streets between Broadway and 7th Ave.) will be closed down starting at 3pm.

There will be a number of events throughout the evening with the opening ceremonies kicking off at 6pm with a Chinese cultural performance. There will also be a number of musical performances in Times Square including performances from Miley Cyrus, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Melissa Ethridge, Icona Pop and more!

There will also be an exclusive Times Square video from “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” movie that will be played at 10:50pm along with a news reel from the Associated Press highlighting some of the most memorable events from 2013 at 11:15pm.

At 11:59pm the 60-second countdown will begin with the lighted Ball descending 70 feet. Finally, at midnight the confetti will be released and 2014 begins!
