Security Change at One World Trade Center

Security Change at One World Trade Center
Posted May 29th, 2014 @ 6:31am

After a pair of embarrassing security breaches, the Port Authority is changing security at One World Trade Center.

Allied Barton Security Services will now provide security at the site, taking over for Summit Security Services.  Allied Barton had already been in charge of security at LaGuardia, Kennedy and Newark Airports.

Last year, three people parachuted from the top of One World Trade Center.  Then in March, a teenager was able to get past security and climb all the way to the spire.

A Port Authority spokesman said the security breaches were a factor, but not the primary reason for the change.

"We were looking for a larger security firm that had more resources," Anthony Hayes told Newsday.

An additional $60 million is being added to the Allied's contract with the Port Authority.  Summit will continue providing security services at other facilities.
