NY State Assemblyman Has Marijuana Charge Dropped
Posted April 25th, 2013 @ 4:17pm

The next time you're driving and see a number of people on the side of the street picking up trash you may want to look out for New York state assemblyman Stephen Katz. It looks like Assemblyman Katz will have marijuana possession charges dropped if he completes 20 hours of community service.

Susan Chana Lask, the attorney for Katz, said the marijuana charges against Katz were dropped and the speeding ticket he received was lowered to a parking violation. Katz just has to pay a $75 fine and perform 20 hours of community service. Police pulled over the 59-year-old assemblyman for driving 80 mph in a 65 mph zone. Police reportedly smelled pot on Katz and found a small bag of marijuana.

According to Lask, Katz will likely be doing his community service at an animal shelter. Ironically, NBC New York reports that Katz voted against legalizing marijuana last June.
