Posted Tuesday, May 7th 2013 @ 3pm

A bill which would require small businesses give paid sick days to their employees passed a City Council committee on Monday according to the NY Daily News. City Council Speaker and 2013 mayoral candidate Christine Quinn agreed to back an amended version of the bill.

The paid sick days bill passed the Civil Service and Labor Committee's and goes before the full council on Wednesday. The new bill requires businesses with 20 or more employees to offer five paid sick days by April of next year, while businesses with 15 workers would have until the fall of 2015 to offer the benefit to its employees.

According to NY 1, Mayor Bloomberg has threatened to veto the bill, but Speaker Quinn feels they have enough votes to override the veto.
