Netflix is ramping up its push into original programming with its first-ever talk show with Chelsea Handler, who is wrapping up her Chelsea Lately show on E! this summer. Chelsea has signed on for a show set to begin in early 2016. Before its launch, Handler will deliver several comedy specials to Netflix. She pulls in $9 million a year for the E! show. No word on how much Netflix will pay.
Harrison Ford is recovering from surgery following the injury he sustained on the set of Star Wars on June 12th.
Reports surfaced saying he broke his ankle but he actually broke his left leg. A spokesman for the actor said his "surgery was successful and he will begin rehab shortly."
The driver of a semitrailer that hit a limousine carrying comedian Tracy Morgan, seriously injuring him and killing a fellow passenger, was speeding moments before the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board said in a preliminary report that Walmart driver Kevin Roper was going 65 mph in a 45 mph construction zone just before the June 7th crash on the New Jersey Turnpike.
So 5 years after Saved by the Bell‘s Dustin Diamond wrote Behind the Bell, Lifetime is airing The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story. This project is completely separate from Screech’s book, which included accusations of threesomes, drugs, and more. The new TV movie will focus a touch on that but mostly on the experiences of 6 unknown young actors placed into the Hollywood spotlight, exposing the challenges of growing up under public scrutiny while trying to maintain the squeaky-clean image of their popular characters both on and off-screen.” The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story will air September 1st.
SNL ice cream flavors are out thanks to Ben & Jerry’s. The company already made flavors for SNL-alumnis Jimmy Fallon, Will Ferrell and Tina Fey. The first new ice cream is called Lazy Sunday, based on the famous sketch with Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell professing their love of Magnolia cupcakes. The second new flavor Ben & Jerry’s is debuting is called Gilly’s Catastrophic Crunch based on Kristen Wiig’s SNL character. Two more SNL ice cream flavors will be released during the 40th season of the show.
AMC is ordering more Better Call Saul. The Breaking Bad prequel spinoff has been renewed for a 13-episode second season, bringing the total episode count to 23. Originally slated to premiere in November, the debut of the hour-long drama has been pushed back to early 2015. The second season will follow in early 2016. Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan directs the series premiere and will be co-producing.
Lindsay Lohan is set to appear in a London revival of the play “Speed-the-Plow” this fall. The three person show features portrays two Hollywood studio executives competing to be the first to bed a secretary. The original Broadway run featured Madonna in the secretary role that Lindsay will fill.
