Barbara Walters will retire from The View and from TV journalism in general this week. Walters stopped by Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update desk to have a little retrospective fun. We were treated to a montage of the show’s incarnations of Barbara Walters, performed by Gilda Radner, Rachel Dratch, Nasim Pedrad and Cheri Oteri. Walters declared it an honor “to see my groundbreaking career in journalism reduced to a cartoon character with a ridiculous voice.” Walters then took a few moments to offer tips to future journalists, including “Develop a signature voice that no one will forget” and “Do not be afraid to ask the tough questions, like, ‘if you were a tree, what kind of a tree would you be?’ or, ‘your place or mine, Brokaw?’”

Sharon Osbourne is done with singing shows like The Voice. She told Conan O'Brien: “If one more person stands in front of me and sings. I tell you, I’ve had it with people singing at me and I’ve had it watching people singing on TV.” She added: “And they’ve all got something wrong — they’ve either got one lung, one kidney... They’ve all got somebody sick in hospital and it’s like, ‘Oh Lord, just shut up and sing!’ But then, when they sing, it’s like, ‘Please stop it, I can’t take it anymore.’” Tell us how you really feel!

When NBC's Ann Currey busted her ankle while hiking in
New York's HarrimanState Park, a New Jersey-based boy scout troop crafted a makeshift stretcher and carried her down a mountain. Scouting Magazine says Curry was hiking in April when the troop found her sitting on the ground. She told them she’d broken her ankle, and they managed to create a splint for it. But she couldn’t walk. Their next step was to craft a makeshift stretcher made from 2 strong sticks and a tarp. Only after they got her safely down the mountain did the teens realize they had just rescued a famous, Emmy-winning TV journalist.

Fans of Pawnee, Indiana and its residents will be sad to hear that the NBC’s show Parks and Recreation will come to a close at the end of its forthcoming 7th season. It hasn't been reordered for fall but will begin again midseason.
