Stephen Colbert will replace David Letterman as host of The Late Show. CBS announced the decision Wednesday afternoon in a press release, less than a week after Letterman's announcement that he will retire next year.  Colbert will retire his Colbert Report character when he takes over. The show's location, producers and other elements will be decided and announced at a later date. CBS signed a five-year agreement with Colbert, who's Comedy Central contract is up at the end of this year.

So Colbert is replacing Letterman, and CBS Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson is staying where he is. Ferguson's people reportedly put a clause in his contract stipulating that if a non-Ferguson character takes over the Late Show, Ferguson would get a consolation payout from CBS. New York Post is reporting the payout as $5 million, while the Daily News puts it closer to $8 million or even $12 million. Ferguson's contract expires in June and it isn't all that unusual. In the past, NBC has reportedly paid both Conan O'Brien and Letterman not to take over the Tonight Show.

Last night on American Idol, Malaya Watson wiped tears away as her goodbye package rolled. Watson’s fellow contestants joined her on stage as she performed "I Am Changing" from the Dreamgirls soundtrack.

Selena Gomez has dropped her mother and stepfather, Mandy and Brian Teefey, as her managers because she feels like she has outgrown them. Gomez has been managed by her family since she hit big on the Disney Channel and now she is looking for a more “seasoned professional manager with other A-list clients.” Gomez hasn’t settled on anyone yet.

Billy Joel made a surprise visit to DeasyElementary School in Glen Cove, NY on Wednesday to watch a Billy Joel concert. Joel was a surprise guest in the audience for the spring concert that kindergartners through second-graders put on. They were performing 15 songs from various phases of Joel's career. Deasy's principal said they invited Joel "on a lark," but never expected him to show up. Joel drove to the concert, 10 minutes from his home on his motorcycle and arrived casually sitting in the back about five minutes before the 9:30 am start. Joel started getting flooded with photo and autograph requests and that prompted him to leave early.

Kris Jenner thinks no one wants to see her naked and says she has no plans to pose in the buff. She told KIIS-FM yesterday she posed in her bikini photos last summer "because I thought it was so inspirational for someone in their fifties to have some motivation and say 'wow' anybody can put a bathing suit on." But that’s it.

Penelope Cruz could be the newest addition to Bond 24. Sources say a recent release schedule issued by Sony includes Cruz’s name on the Bond 24 cast list alongside Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, and Naomie Harris. Cruz has been rumored for the film since last summer. She’s married in real life to Javier Bardem, who played the villain in Skyfall. The next Bond is scheduled for release on November 6th, 2015.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop ended with Kevin James getting the girl, but he’s going to be making eyes at a new lady in Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. Daniella Alonso has just been cast as his love interest in the comedy sequel, which has Blart taking on art thieves while in Vegas.

Here’s what’s breaking out at the movies today. The sports flick “Draft Day” also stars Jennifer Garner as his love interest. There’s also the scary “Oculus” and the animated flick “Rio 2” out too.
